Margaret Woodward, a wonderful Australian artist, makes a statement that
reflects well how I feel about my practice as an artist:
“ A person’s art, is at the very least a reflection of their life and mind … and
represents the references and connections, which that individual is capable
of making … whether we like it or not: …. One’s stories and understandings
and all the linked references which belong to life find their way into the
work.” *
My work is the result of the physical and emotional response to the
immediate environment. I respond, internalise, analyse and encapsulate my
personal
reality on to canvas. The energy and immediacy of this response is seen in
the use of gesture, colour, placement and line or marks on the surface. I
associate and revel in my world both in the physical and philosophical sense.
